Lately, with all this traveling, fitness has taken a bit of a leeway in my life. I’ve been averaging one workout every two to four days, which is not quite satisfactory. For some reason, I’m just not feeling it.
Run, Run, Run
Back in Alnwick, I did get in a few easy runs around the school campus (the royal duchess high school). Running on the grass was such a treat and the hill at the start of each lap was just challenging enough. Those lovely runs are probably my fave runs to date. 😀
Here in London, I’ve been seeing runners practically everywhere, seriously. It’s really great and might just shame motivate me to get more active.
Beth @ Racing Robsons says
I always motivate myself by thinking about what I’d do if I skipped the workout. Usually, all I’d do is watch some tv or something else equally un-eventful. Then I remember that I always feel better after a workout than I do if I sit around not doing anything. So I might as well get off my bootay and go on the run.
That’s kind of a long train of thoughts, but it really does work for me. 🙂

Yeah, I usually end up doing something completely unproductive when I’m not working out. Your method is a really great one. I usually try to do it, but sometimes I just push it out of mind. I really do need to work on it. XD

I remind myself how I will feel if I don’t workout. That usually does the trick.
Shawn says
Great tip. I should do it more often. 😛

Ahh, vacations and workouts…. 🙂 I will normally try and plan ahead and set certain days aside to workout, but if it doesn’t happen I will try not to stress about it. If I am just entirely not motivated, I will at least start the workout and if I am just really off or tired I will stop. But I usually end up feeling better and I keep going. 🙂
Shawn says
I should start to plan my workouts in advance. Usually I just wing it which probably isn’t the best thing to do. 😛 And you’re so right about just starting to workout first, once I get started I usually feel like I owe it to myself to do a few more sets, if not a whole workout.

My motivation has been sort of low this summer. I usually just force myself to put my sneakers on and go and then tell myself I can cut my run early if I have to. But then I very rarely do because once I get going I am usually fine and start enjoying it.
Shawn says
That’s exactly what I’ve been doing to get myself running this summer. 😀 Lacing up my sneakers and heading out really is the hardest part.

I used to have abs….and then I decided that waffles were too delicious to live without. 🙂
Shawn says
Love waffles 🙂 The belgian waffles they’ve been serving at the hotel breakfast buffet are just too good to pass up. XD

I agree- it’s so hard to get motivated to workout when traveling. I always set out with the best of intentions, and then get caught up in the activities of traveling and somehow miss the boat. Someday…
Shawn says
Absolutely. It always starts with the best of intentions.

That campus run looks like it is a wonderful surface to run on!. Cushy and fast. Vey cool.
I’ve never seen anything like the amount of bikes in that photo. That is something.
I saw “Jersey Boys” when it was playing here in St. Louis. It is a fun show.
I have to say that the best show I have ever seen though was “The Book of Mormon”.
It was just incredible. I didn’t have to pay New York City prices but I can see why it is sold out there way in advance.
There are definitely days (and sometimes a few weeks) when I am just not feeling it and I usually do one of two things:
1) I just set my alarm and make sure to take a decent amount of caffeine to get me revved up so and it usually makes me stop thinking and I just get out the door.
2) If I am really really not feeling it, then I just go back to bed and try it again the next day. I am fine with skipping a day here or there if it feels right, but I usually don’t feel “right” if I take a number of workouts off in a row.
Great Site! I found you on Friday Linkup and thanks for your post on mine!!

I saw posters for Book of Mormon all over the underground stations and also read about it in a magazine. Seems really interesting, but it’ll have to wait till the next time I go to NYC or London which probably won’t be for a while. 🙁 Thanks for your really descriptive comment, it’s very helpful!
