Marvelous is being in London!!!
Yesterday, after a 6 hr bus ride from Alnwick, we finally arrived in the amazing city of London. It was pretty close to suppertime by the time we arrived, so we had dinner at the docks.
There were tons of ethnic cuisine food stalls, and I went with the veggie combi at the ethiopian stall.
After dinner, we did a little sightseeing.
This morning, we headed off to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard.
We arrived about half an hour early, but it wasn’t quite enough so we only got an obstructed view of the guards.
By the time the guard changing was done, it was pretty much lunch time. Lunch was at the Serpentine Cafe in Hyde Park.
The parks here are so ridiculously big and all the runners made me want to join right in. Except for the fact that I was in crocs and would probably get lost. : P
After we filled our tummies, we headed off to the Tower of London.
There was no need to pay an additional entrance fee since we had our London passes, thank goodness. We visited the bloody tower
as well as the white tower, just to name a few.
One of the most satisfying things was that we got to see the crown jewels without waiting in line for a long time.
What happened was that it was nearing the closing time so the originally uber long line to see the crown jewels was way shorter. My dad noticed that the line, albeit a short one, was still moving, so we thought we’d giving getting in line a go. Luckily, the gate guard or keeper something was really nice and the door wasn’t closed until we and a few other people behind us were let in.
Seeing the very crown the queen wore during her coronation was just plain amazing. Pretty soon, it was mealtime again. After changing subways multiple times we finally got to Convent Garden. The subway system here in London is just so complicated. I’m definitely going to be more grateful for the relative simplicity of the Taipei MRT system when I get back.
We had dinner at a sweet French restaurant called Le Pain Quotidien which uses a lot of fresh organic ingredients. My detox salad
After quite a few transfers, we finally arrived back at our hotel to call it a day. Today really has been simply marvelous. Hope everybody’s went just as well.
